I’m serious about inviting Tropic of Cancer to play at a nice concert venue with a nice soundsystem in Paris. Would be on the 6th of july. I found it difficult to find the agency taking care of the whole thing. To this day, I haven’t made a request yet, but it’s been encouraging me to listen to this new record over and over again.

And so, after “A Color” has been awarded as my song of the year 2011, “The One Left” is slowly but surely growing on me the same way. And I guess I’ve understood the title, that’s something else I can strongly relate to with Tropic Of Cancer’s music, and story. Can’t wait to have them over here in Paris.

Hope you’ll like it as much as I do.

This is the mix I did for Pauldu91 back in sept 2011.

http://pauldu91.blogspot.fr/2011/10/il-ma-dabord-fallu-un-certain-temps.html

We listened to it again with Voiski and “The Girl” driving really really fast, being really really late for Ligovskoï’s concert last saturday. We almost killed ourselves four or five times, and the loud techno with experimental and ambient noise layers was thrusting our adrenalin rushes. Very strange experience.

Anyway, lots of gossip, when it’s all about listening to the music once again.

To make it more appealling… here’s the playlist again :

Bruce Gilbert - Re-Exit // Touch Seven
Abdulla Rashim - Gizaw 3 // Abdulla Rashim Records
Mokira - Time Track (Silent Servant remix) // Kontra Music
Mark Broom & James Ruskin - The Metal Man (Original Mix) // Blueprint
Marcel Dettmann - Kernel // MDR06
Speedy J - Shoegaze (Speedy J Out Of Focus Dub) // Electric Deluxe
Planetary Assault Systems - Surface Noise // Peacefrog
Cyrus - Enforcement (Mills Mix) // Basic Channel
L.F.O. vs. FUSE - Loop // Plus 8 Recordings
Substance - Relish (Shed Dub Remix) // Scion Versions
Sigha - The Politics Of Dying (James Ruskin Remix) // Our Circula Sound
Mike Parker - Subterranean Liquid // Prologue
RRose - Bare Hand // Sandwell District
Sleeparchive - Ronan Point // Tresor
OVR - Post Traumatic Son (Ben Klock Remix) // Blueprint

So we did it, did it, did it ! yeah ! set our souls and our spirits free…

“Club Lonely”, this brand new party that happened last monday night in Paris was fantastic. After a warmup by the “Wrecka Spinnaz Club” guys who did a great job, Prosumer was kind enough to accept to play back to back with me all night long. To be honest, it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I can’t give enough thanks to all the people that made this party happen, and to Prosumer who - like me - was singing to almost every record we both played !

Classics and gems, from Reese to Lil’ Louis of course, with some 69, MK and Murk in the process. We ended up - 10 of us behind the decks, singing “Keep the fire burning”, clapping our hands and smiling like idiots. What a night !

For the occasion, I had made up a couple of ground rules for playing back to back. Here’s how it goes :

——————————————————————————————————-

THE “CLUB LONELY” RULES FOR JACKING THE HOUSE BACK TO BACK

Rule n°1 “Pick a number”

Both players will have to agree on a number, which will be the number of consecutive records each one will play before handinng out the decks to the other.  The Club Lonely Consortium strongly encourages 3 records each : you have the time to set up some pretty nice tricks and surprises, and you always start on the same side !

Rule n°2 “Ping Pong”

At any time, when one of the two players is about to get the decks back, he can declare the beginning of a ping-pong. Only the other player can then end the ping-pong phase, during which - of course - it’s one record each ! (no matter how short or beatless or acapella or whatever… we’ve heard of the cheats…)

Rule n°3 “Pick my bag”

Similarly, when one of the two players is about to get the decks back, he can invite the other player to “pick his bag” : instead of selecting his following records in his own bag, he will then have to make his selection from the crate of the player who invited him to do so. Invitations can be refused. It is highly recommended to use the “pick my bag” rule during a ping pong.

Rule n°4 “Joker”

At any time, 1 hour after the beginning of the back to back, and 1 hour before the end, the players can use a one and only joker, and enjoy a full 30 minutes set without any interruption or any sarcastic comments from the other contestant. The Club Lonely Consortium strongly recommends to use this rule, but to perform a quick change of mind after the first record and declare a ping-pong instantly.

Rule n°5 “Novelty rules”

A brand new rule can be invented during the set, once only, by each one of the contestants. Drinking games and blind tests can be involved, obviously.

We’re so far away, that we stopped being afraid of not coming back.
The anticipated pleasures arousing our vertigo,
our landmarks escaped in the celestial void,
while the propeller’s smudge fades away.
Finally, everyone’s finding out what they’re doing here,
they came to believe.

No privileges.
No loneliness.
Let’s join the hyperreal.
